The NAACP is concerned and so am I

In what alternate universe do for profit charter schools make sense?

The only answer I got was, NONE!

One concern that I have is from a statement that (boy, this is hard to say) Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos made to the effect that vouchers to charter schools is a good way to put “god” back into education. She doesn’t respect our secular laws as to the separation of church and state and IMHO she is unfit to “serve” in that capacity.

A dear John letter to John Deere

This is a little known trend that has already started and will be nearly impossible to eradicate unless arrested soon.

For hundreds of years the American farmer, car buffs, emerging engineers and others have been know to tinker with a thing or two. You know, the American way?

Those days may be numbered…..

What I am referring to is a little known [ALEC influenced] law you won’t likely see mentioned on mainstream media and will certainly will not hear about from the lawmakers that passed it, or any lawmakers for that matter.

I’m talking about what is called “repair prevention” and it’s being pushed by major manufacturers. It’s an attempt to corporatize the idea of ownership.

Today a lot of the manufactured goods you buy contain software, from a beard trimmer to a bulldozer. When you buy an item it should be yours to do with as you please and that should include the right to “fix” the thing you own, as we have done in the past.

Then comes this…. Maybe you’ve signed one yourself….. it’s called an “End User License Agreement”, or EULA. This agreement you signed has buried in the “find print” is a clause that forbids anyone from attempting, or doing, repairs or alterations to it.

Meanwhile, if you own an Apple cell phone 6 or later, do not attempt to fix it without taking it to a licensed Apple outlet. If you do you may end up with a locked device with “Error 53” on the display and at that point it’s value is only as a paperweight.

 

Abdul El-Sayed for Governor of Michigan

 

I sure hope that the good people of this once great state of Michigan don’t dwell on this good man’s name and aren’t intimidated by his Muslim background and consider him on his merits only.

He is a very smart and altruistic person that is aware of the plight of the people that the current administration so easily dismisses.

The Snyder administration is using a very narrow minded view of things to discriminate against certain groups and to deny the rights of others.

His (Snyder’s) administration is using government to deny rights to, and access to some public services, by selling off public programs to private (for profit, of course) entities.

It’s not only the Flint water crisis where he poisoned (for life in some cases) over 9000 children with lead tainted water….

It’s also the fact that Snyder cut $1.2 billion from the funds for public schools and gave this tax money (it’s yours too) to the owners of private charter schools that are run to make profits. WTF???

He also signed a contract with a filthy, greedy company to feed the incarcerated in our state prisons rotten and rat chewed upon food, also for profits.

Snyder also had the CONservatives in our GOP majority run legislature to pass a stupid “right to work” law (for lower wages and no benefits) in the waning hours of a session when the ones that would have opposed it, the Democrats, had conveniently gone home for the day.

He also is an enemy to the LGBT community by backing a screwed up, so-called “religious freedom” law that allows emergency personal to discriminate against anyone they believe to be homosexual and refuse to treat them (even in life threatening situations).

Then there is a woman’s right to control her own body that the GOP thinks they have a right to deny (they don’t). Snyder sided with an extremist religious group to allow part of the fee paid for a specialty license plate with the words “Choose Life” on it to go to them to advance their discriminatory views on abortion. It is a gross violation of the separation of church and state. This group is profiting from fees paid to the state for license plate renewal. It’s just plain wrong.

Abdul El-Sayed is what this state needs to restore honesty and openness to the governor’s office after the debacle of the #SnyderFails administration. He has run our state and its public services into the ground long enough.

Google will confirm all these claims. I am new at this (relatively) and if I supply all the links, you’ll still come back with the ones I missed….. curse Google and love it too…

A Rant to my State Representative

Needless to say I was not happy with his canned answer as to why the legislature is dragging it’s feet on marijuana legalization….

This:

Well Jim, I see that you are towing the (hateful party line) and still are singing the same old tune about a pathway to harder drugs…..people like you are so uninformed that logic is useless.

In fact, I’ve seen several testimonies where people profess that by smoking marijuana they were able to get off dangerous prescription pain killers, alcohol and other hard drugs (that I vehemently object to, like crystal meth and crystals of another kind [I’m not totally up on all that, I just know that they are there]). But cosmos forbid that helping them is akin to enabling them…..

You and your kind are only interested in major drug company profits, DAMN the damage they inflict.

The assault on our public education systems (in favor of for profit charter schools thanks to (governor Rick Snyder) “robbing’ $1.2 billion from our public schools [was that Betsy DeVos too?]),  the refusal to support a livable minimum wage, or even a guaranteed minimum stipend that keeps people off the streets from being homeless destitute individuals, and, cosmos forbid (again, but seriously, I’m atheist), a monthly payment that allows them to have an address so they can actually apply for a job and hopefully support themselves without public assistance.

THAT would be “enabling them”… (bullshit!!!)….

Not many that are forced by unseen, and by no fault of their own most times, to be on welfare want to be on it, but they are just so behind the “eight ball” that getting out of this endless cycle of poverty that they simply, in many cases, just give up.

It’s time for some real change…. not the theocracy based (no work, no food) attitude of the fake ass evangelicals who are delusional, but real social democratic change.

If you are in this country there should be absolutely no reason for you to be homeless or hungry.

This is the richest country in the world and we are (sadly) a country that lets kids go to bed hungry, not have access to a good basic education, access to free state sponsored healthcare, we incarcerate prisoners at a rate that even the worst dictatorships cannot match (fact: the United States of America has only 5% of the world’s population, yet we incarcerate 25% of the world’s prison inmates [incidentally, non-proportionally minorities]) and have to watch those in congress refuse to lift a finger, to make their needs (and all Americans needs) a priority and actually address our most urgent, basic needs like clean air and water is tantamount to murder.

We actually need to put you people in prison instead……

I am appalled that we can waste trillions on a fighter jet that can’t even fire it’s own weapon (still after several years) and spend more (55% of our national budget) on a military that is so bloated that since 1998 they have over 8 trillion dollars that they cannot account for, and yet we have a non-responsive (bloated) congress (state AND federal), infused with millionaires, who have the ultimate healthcare, pensions that keep them millionaires  for life and no positive/progressive actions are even remotely considered.

Time for the people to take control of the military and forcibly remove all the people in congress that have a track record of voting against any and all of these positive measures.

I realize that what what I’m advocating could be construed as treason, but I respectfully have to say, that that is exactly what our forefathers said should happen in this extreme circumstance.

I give you Donald John Trump who in a matter of days, what he has done, make what Hitler did in the 1930’s pale by comparison.

This is not a time for timid and spineless, bow down to the establishment, cowering, but a time that we are faced with the total destruction of the country (and democracy) we all (even the right wing idiots that have been fooled into supporting this fascist agenda) love.

There may not be another chance…..

There is not only an infestation in our federal government, but is goes all the way down to the local and state level.

Fanatical extremists ARE the problem

It matters not which brand of God you favor, they are all imaginary.

When considering the mass murder in Orlando (06/11/16) there is no difference between that and any of the other of the too numerous to mention mass murders in the last 30 (or so) years.

Some were done by people that hate government (McVeigh) and others, which consists the majority of them, were committed by Christian or Islamic extremists. Mostly Christians.

Each religion has it’s extremists. These are dangerous people when they take their brand of ‘god’ as the right one and try to carry out his “plan” for living a righteous life, and if they still buy into the myth that there will be a reward in the afterlife, then this one life (that we know of empirically) becomes disposable to them in their deluded minds.

Comparing one (Abraham, Mohammed, John Smith or L. Ron Hubbard, or any of the thousands of sects in each) religion to another is like comparing a California orange to one from Florida.

I think that reason and logic need to be the main theme here and that all secular governments, like the USA and other non-theological countries need to come out and speak the truth about all religion.

Until reason and logic become accepted and the hypocrisy in all religious texts is considered, then put into rational thought, there can be no such advancement of equality and justice for all.

The fact is that there is no proof that anything written in ancient times is true, nor can it be confirmed empirically, therefore logic confirms that all these religions are nothing but myths (and stories passed on from one generation to another) and should be treated as so.

Until that happens and people are required to read the books of the Bible, Q’ran or Torah in an open minded and critical thinking state, where reasonable people can see the hypocrisy in all religious texts, nothing permanent will change.

Since we are over 2000 years removed (over 1400 for Mohamed) from any new things from their respective, so called God, and if we are so important to this God, then why, with all his supposed all knowing/all powerful attributes, does he not send us a new message to confirm this?

It certainly is within the realm of possibility for him if you believe in your brand of scripture, so what’s the problem?

I can tell you why with 99.9% certainty that the only logical reason is, is that God is imaginary.

We know that all scriptures are the product of ancient people that thought that the earth was flat and didn’t know where the sun went at night. There is no magic here (no talking snakes, talking/burning bushes or great floods where millions of species lived for over a year on a tiny, fragile boat) and there never was.

The bible, or any other scriptures, are not proof of anything, but merely stories that were most times passed down in speech since 90% of all people living in that time period were illiterate.

Try this at a party; start an untrue rumor at one end of the room and tell everyone to pass it on, then see how accurate it remains when it gets to the other end of the room. A simple experiment (damn, there’s that goddamn logic and science again!!!) that will show how these things get blown out of proportion.

All religion and all ‘gods’ are merely the product of the minds of men (that should also be noted) during early civilization in a time when there was little (if any) science and what there was, was considered as the evil work of man, so myths and fairy tales were the normal way of thinking then.

Is that too much to ask?

God didn’t write the Bible (buybull), the Bible wrote ‘god’………

Of Rights and Regulation

About this terrible shooting  by Omar Mateen in Orlando, Florida last weekend. Here is some weight I have to get off my conscience. It goes like this;

This shooter should never have had access to the weapon used, but because of our laws, that so far have served the purpose they were intended to, he was.

Why is that?

Our constitution is supposed to guarantee certain inalienable rights. The second amendment says we have the right to bear arms, but it also says that privilege is limited to “a well regulated Militia” and we now have the National Guard for that purpose. That still leaves open the definition of what constitutes a Militia. Is it run by the government? Then it is not a true Militia.

The other part of the 2nd Amendment that says that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”; is also open to interpretation, an interpretation widely held by some people to be absolute without any restrictions. But that one is too vague on it’s face.

This man involved had been on an FBI or Homeland Security watch list and that is where I have a problem. Our government is supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people, yet we have our own government virtually spying on it’s own citizens and that is unconstitutional in my estimation.

The 14th Amendment is about civil rights and basically says, and this is supposed to apply nationally, that; “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges and or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection under the law.

This man had been spied on and evaluated and yet he still got a weapon and was still not denied his right to bear arms even with the spying. So we’re supposed to think that this spy system we have now gives us a sense of security? It sure doesn’t me. It must be eliminated.

One former president said that those that give up any rights and expect to gain security lose their rights and have no security (paraphrased of course).

He’s the problem. Assault type weapons. No one should have the right to any gun that has clips that require virtually no reloading, shots that can be fired as fast as one can pull the trigger, can be altered to full automatic easily and are basically weapons that only a trained military enlisted person should own. Why? Because they have just one purpose, to kill as many people as fast as possible.

That’s my interpretation of the 2nd and 14th Amendments and although I believe that this man had yet to commit any felony and therefore should not have been spied on, he had all the rights to these weapons just like any other U.S. citizen.

It’s the weapons that are so easily available is what needs to change here. Not the constitution, but the changing of some constitutionally legal laws designed to do some “well regulating” if you will.

This tragedy might have been prevented with a federal law that bans ALL assault type semi-automatic rifles.

I believe that also to have a real lasting effect the ban should also include any hand gun with the same features (semi-auto, clip fed, easily altered).

This stance, or opinion if you prefer and I expect to be called out. Be my guest.

This is legal to do and should be done. As for the whole spying thing, another day another subject.
